The French army posted a photo of a soldier training in the mud and rain appearing to mock US President Donald Trump for cancelling his trip to a World War One ceremony.

Mr Trump cancelled his visit to American war cemetery at Belleau in France on the weekend due to poor weather.

The French Army appeared to take a dig at Mr Trump on Twitter posting a photo of a soldier crawling under barbed wire in the rain.
"Il y a de la pluie, mais c'est pas grave On reste motivé," the tweet read, with the hashtag 'Monday motivation'.

English translation: "There’s rain, but it’s not serious. We’re staying motivated.”

Many others on social media also took aim at Mr Trump pointing out his predecessor, Barack Obama, and Candian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, had previously dealt with the rain at past ceremonies.
Trump, who was in France for commemorations marking the centenary of the end of the war, and his wife Melania were to have flown by helicopter to the Belleau Wood battlefield and cemetery where US Marines faced off against German forces in 1918.

More than 7,000 soldiers were killed or wounded in the June 1918 battle and the cemetery contains the graves of 2,289 war dead.

But they cancelled the visit on the weekend after "scheduling and logistical difficulties caused by the weather" forced his helicopter to be grounded, according to a White House statement.
