Isinbayeva targets Portland world indoors

Duel Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva is targeting next year's world indoors for her return to competition ahead of the Rio Games.

Yelena Isinbayeva, the world record-holder and two-time Olympic champion in the pole vault, is targeting next year's world indoor championships for her return to top-level competition ahead of the Rio Games.

The 33-year-old Russian last competed in 2013, when she won gold at the world championships in Moscow.

Isinbayeva says on the Russian athletics federation's website she plans to compete in two events in Russia before the world indoors, which are set down for Portland, Oregon from March 17-20.

However, she says she could also miss them if she doesn't feel ready since "after all, the most important competition is the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro".
