Islamist hackers target Aust websites

Victorian ALP websites have been hacked for months, with a group targeting the treasurer's site now demanding authorities "stop killing people in Syria".

The Victorian government must address system vulnerabilities that allowed hackers to take over the website of Treasurer Tim Pallas, the state opposition says.

Mr Pallas's Labor Party website was hacked on Wednesday by a group calling itself the Tunisian Fallaga Team.

The Victorian branch of the ALP has confirmed it is moving to a more secure hosting system after months of disruptive hacking.

Shadow attorney-general John Pesutto says the hacking is a clear sign that Victoria is susceptible to cyber attacks and it was only luck that other serious attacks have not taken place.

ALP assistant state secretary Kosmos Samaras says anonymous hackers have been attacking the websites of Labor MPs for months.

The website of the Catholic Santa Maria College in Melbourne was also hacked by the same group on Wednesday as were the websites of Nunawading Christian College and Catholic College Bendigo.

Coffs Harbour Christian Community School was targeted along with training provider Future Academy Australia.

Russian, Pakistani and Italian websites also were compromised.
