Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza have agreed a "comprehensive and mutual" ceasefire after four days of bloodshed, an Egyptian intelligence official told AFP.
"An agreement ending the current operations between the two sides, including a halt to assassinations, entered into force at 1:00 am. Egypt will follow up on the implementation of this agreement," he said on condition of anonymity.
He said the deal came after Egypt carried out "intensive contacts" with both sides in a bid "to stop the military operations against the Gaza Strip and to end Palestinian bloodletting."
The truce announcement came after four days of violence that began on Friday with Israel's killing of a senior Palestinian militant.
Gaza militants responded by firing hundreds of rockets and mortar rounds into Israel.
Palestinian medics said 25 people were killed in the four days of violence, with dozens more injured. Five people were wounded in Israel.
