Israel's prime minister has promised to take a fresh look at extraditing a former Melbourne teacher wanted in Australia for allegedly molesting her students.
Malka Leifer is accused of sexually assaulting girls in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Melbourne before fleeing beyond the reach of justice back to Israel.
An Israeli court ended her home detention in June after a psychiatrist found she was not mentally fit to face an extradition trial until she completes treatment, which could go on for years.
If Leifer returns to Victoria she faces prosecution for 74 sexual abuse offences against 10 girls at the Adass Israel School.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said he asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about Leifer during a recent trip to Israel.
"I don't want to prejudge a process, but that individual should be sent back here to face those who have accused her," Mr Andrews told reporters on Tuesday.
"The prime minister concluded that he would have a fresh look at it and he would do so without bias.
"I'm very confident that is exactly what will happen and we'll wait and see whether that leads to her being sent back to Australia."
In October, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said he raised the same issue with Mr Netanyahu.
"I have absolutely raised it in quite a bit of detail," Mr Turnbull told reporters at the time.
"He's certainly taken all of that onboard but I can't go into any more detail than that because it's a matter for the Israeli authorities."
Leifer's lawyers have claimed she is too unwell to attend court appearances, but Mr Andrews said victims can be "rightly sceptical" about those claims.
Leifer headed Adass Israel School from 2003 until 2008, when she fled Australia.
