A Sydney couple have told of their terror when they awoke to find a naked stranger in their bed.

The pair, Katie and Chris, woke at 2am on Monday in their Maroubra home to find the Irish national sleeping in their bed completely naked.

"That's kind of the scary part, how long he might have [been] looking at us thinking it's a good idea to get into bed with these guys," Katie, who first found the man, told News Corp.

Katie said the man had even got under the bed covers.

"Chris is on one side, I'm in the middle and then our stranger on the end right in with us," she said.

"That's kind of the scary part, how long he might have [been] looking at us thinking it's a good idea to get into bed with these guys."

"So just the sense of someone next to me who shouldn't be there ... It was terrifying."

Katie's partner, Chris, asked the man to leave and the stranger picked up his clothes and walked into the backyard where the couple tried to keep him while they called police.

But the 25-year-old man climbed back through a window and walked through their home.

Soon after, the man began convulsing and an ambulance was also called.

Neighbours who saw the ambulance arrive said the Irish national was still naked at that point. They say he was moved from a paddy wagon into the ambulance.

"When the ambulance stretcher came down they then got him out of the van starkers as, charming, and that was it... we just saw him get taken away," neighbour Sally Ferguson said.

The man is undergoing medical checks at Prince of Wales Hospital for possible drug-related health issues and will be interviewed by police over aggravated break and enter charges.
