Prominent lawyers, producers and businesspeople have joined stars of the stage and screen to call for an end to the detention of refugee children.
Actors Bryan Brown, Deborah Mailman and Rebecca Gibney have joined forces with prominent Australians, including former Australian of the Year, Ita Buttrose and former cricketer Ian Chappell to record a song called "We're Better Than This".
The song is part of a campaign called We're Better Than This Australia, aimed at releasing children from refugee detention centres.
In a statement, Brown said the campaign was aimed at giving a voice to the more than 700 children being held in Australian detention camps on the mainland and offshore.
"There are many Australians who are appalled by this and that's where the idea to start this real people movement came from," he said.
"We're just ordinary Australians who want both sides of politics to hear us when we say we believe we can do better than we are currently doing when it comes to managing kids seeking refuge."
Actor Imogen Bailey said it's every Australian's responsibility to understand and care for children in detention.
“We’re not here to tell people that their opinions are right or wrong though," she said.
"What we are trying to do is to get people to have an opinion based on fact, and our responsibility, as a nation to care for all children without prejudice or agenda."
