It's great to be a Kangaroo again: Gallen

Paul Gallen has admitted he feared never playing for Australia again ahead of his return to the Kangaroos side after a two-years absence.

After suffering a round one knee injury against North Queensland in Townsville, Gallen was concerned he may never pull on the green and gold jersey again.

However, the injury was not as bad as initially feared, clearing the way for Gallen to take on New Zealand in Newcastle on Friday night following a number of strong NRL performances for Cronulla.

"I made it very clear at the start of the year I wanted my Test jumper back," Gallen said.

"I had a chat to (Kangaroos coach) Mal (Meninga) and he spoke about getting the pride back in the Australian jersey and that is me, I have always wanted to play for Australia.

"I am very happy to have that jumper back and to be getting into camp and putting Australia back where we belong, number one in the world."

Australia have lost the last three Tests to the Kiwis, as the New Zealanders assumed the mantle of rugby league's number one team.

Gallen hasn't yet determined his future beyond this year, meaning this could be his final Test.

"I feared I wouldn't get the chance again, especially after round one when it was looking the worst." Gallen said.

"Me and Flanno (Sharks coach Shane Flanagan) sat in a room in Townsville and it wasn't the nicest night but luckily things worked out and I got back as quick as I could."
