Israel Folau predicts his Test rugby frustrations will disappear with an exciting shift to fullback aimed to shake up the Springboks' blueprint and shock their defenders at Suncorp Stadium.
Since enjoying a scintillating first-half debut for Australia, scoring two tries against the British and Irish Lions, Folau has been a wasted luxury for the Wallabies in five Tests on the wing.
The code-hopping star struggled to get involved against the Lions and the All Blacks more recently, even with a roving commission, but expects the switch to the more familiar No.15 role to bring out his best on Saturday night.
"At times, it has been very frustrating (on the wing)," Folau said. "It's not as easy as it looks, to get involved.
"But playing at fullback this week gives me a great opportunity.
"I'm a lot more excited actually. You come into the line and play at first receiver and get the ball and also play with the guys outside you.
"It's a lot different to being at the end of the line."
Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie has challenged a bedrock of South Africa's traditional field-position game, built on the big kicking of five-eighth Morne Steyn, by switching Folau when concerns remain he might still be too raw for the position at Test level.
"Having him in that position, we think they will kick a lot so, if they kick, he gets his hands on the ball and that's good," McKenzie said. "Maybe they won't kick as much. We'll see."
Folau produced his best Super Rugby form against South African sides where defenders had little idea how to contend with his loping stride and deceptive step.
The axing of Matt Toomua for mercurial playmaker Quade Cooper's first Test start in almost 12 months is also designed to give Folau, and his fellow backs, more chances in space out wide.
"For me, I don't have to do too much, just give him the ball and let him do the rest," Cooper said.
With Folau's move to fullback, Western Force cult hero Nick Cummins is promoted to the right wing in one of three changes to the starting side which lost 27-16 to New Zealand.
Prop Sekope Kepu's technical scrummaging ability has led to him replacing Ben Alexander at tight-head following a tough night in Wellington.
