J.J. Watt could miss the entire NFL season after it was reported by ESPN that the Houston Texans' star defensive lineman had back surgery Thursday.
Watt had surgery on a herniated disc in his during the off-season but still somehow made it back for week one.
He re-injured the back early this season and the Texans had placed him on their injured reserve list on Wednesday. There was initially speculation that he might return in December, but that is apparently no longer the case.
The surgery is Watt's second in two months.
He started each of the team's three regular-season games and was hurt again Thursday night against the New England Patriots.
Watt, who has won Defensive Player of the Year for the past two seasons, will miss a game for the first time in his career Sunday after starting 83 straight games since he was drafted in the first round in 2011.
