Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie's son has been sent to a rehabilitation centre as part of his sentencing for crimes including using fake money.

Dylan James Milverton, 21, from Devonport in northwest Tasmania was on Monday sentenced to a two-month suspended prison term and 18 months probation after pleading guilty to four charges of using counterfeit money, two counts of driving while suspended and one instance of possessing a controlled plant.

"He has to comply with probation orders and part of that is that he attend a full-time rehabilitation program in Queensland, called Teen Challenge," a Burnie Magistrates Court spokesman told AAP.

In August, Senator Lambie told federal parliament her son was battling an ice addiction.

The senator did not attend Monday's sentencing.

The Teen Challenge website says the Christian-based program helps men aged 16 to 39 "who struggle with addiction, abuse and other life-controlling problems".

Lawyer Glynn Williams proposed the rehabilitation plan for Milverton, telling the court it would provide peace and quiet away from the spotlight and a chance to get himself back together, The Advocate newspaper reported.

The fake money charges stemmed from Milverton's attempt to buy goods with counterfeit $50 notes at businesses in northwest Tasmania in early 2015, the paper said.
