James, Callister into snowboard final

Australians Scotty James and Kent Callister are through to the Olympic Test event/World Cup halfpipe snowboard final in Pyeongchang.

Snowboard X Games gold medallist Scotty James and fellow Australian Kent Callister have defied tricky conditions to move through to the final of the Winter Olympics test event in Pyeongchang.

James, who stunned the likes of Olympic halfpipe champions Shaun White and Iouri Podlatchikov to take out the Aspen event last month, wasn't quite at that level on Friday at Phoenix Park.

The 22-year-old qualified for the 10-man decider in sixth spot, easing through with his first run down the halfpipe (83.25 points).

Callister, a 2014 Winter Olympian, was one of a small group of riders to improve on their second run, scoring 81.25 to qualify seventh for the World Cup event.

Rain and warmer conditions at the Phoenix Park course made things tougher as the day progressed, a number of riders getting caught up in slow transitions out of the 'pipe.

American White bounced back to his best after a disappointing showing at the X Games to qualify in first (93.25), with compatriot Chase Josey second (89.5) and China's Yiwei Zhang in third (89).

No Australians made the six-woman final with Emily Arthur best placed in 10th.

The final is on Sunday.
