Director and explorer James Cameron is taking his love for sea exploration to another level, planning to dive solo into the Mariana Trench - the deepest part of the ocean.

Cameron's Deepsea Challenger is a one seat sub designed to withstand pressures at the deepest point of the trench. It weighs 12 tonnes, is 24 feet high and is made of syntactic foam developed by Cameron and his team of scientists.

The sub took a team of scientists and the National Geographic Society more than seven years to make and will allow Cameron to capture 3D images.
