Trumpet virtuoso and composer James Morrison won his first ARIA on Wednesday night for his jazz collaboration with acapella ensemble The Idea Of North.
Their joint album Feels Like Spring took the prize for Best Jazz Album as the ARIA "genre" awards continued to be presented during a five-night run of live concerts in Sydney's Botanic Gardens.
Dance music breakthroughs Yolanda Be Cool and D-Cup also won a maiden ARIA for their worldwide club smash We No Speak Americano, the song scooping the gong for Best Dance Release.
So too did hip-hop favourite M-Phazes, whose Good Gracious record beat off strong competition from Urthboy and Bliss N Eso to claim Best Urban Album.
Live sets on the night came from Guy Sebastian and Amy Meredith, two of the acts who will be contesting some of the 15 ARIAs up for grabs at Sunday's ceremony at the Sydney Opera House.
All this week "genre" awards are being presented at the iTunes Live: ARIA Awards Concert Series with the shows available to stream on MySpace.
Parkway Drive, Dan Sultan and The Wiggles are among the acts to have already won ARIA Awards, while Washington, Boy & Bear and John Butler Trio have entertained audiences in the run up to Sunday's finale.
