Jankovic, Bertens headline Hobart Intl

Five world top 40-ranked women and a former No.1 will compete in January's Hobart International.

Former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic and 2016 French Open semi-finalist Kiki Bertens will contest next month's Hobart International.

Serbian Jankovic, ranked 54 in the world, will make her first appearance at the WTA Tour event, while French world No.41 Alize Cornet will return to defend her title.

2015 French Open runner-up Lucie Safarova, whose ranking has dropped to 62 after in illness-interrupted season, will also compete in the Australian Open lead-up tournament.

Bertens, the top-ranked player on the draw, is coming off a career-best year highlighted by her maiden grand slam semi-final berth where she was beaten by Serena Williams at Roland Garros.

The world No. 22 Dutchwoman is one of five top 40 players who will play in Hobart, alongside Anastasija Sevastova (34) Monica Niculescu (38), Alison Riske (39) and Misaki Doi (40).

The tournament begins on January 8.
