Jason Clark has been mentally preparing for his last month at South Sydney for his whole NRL career.
Or at least that's what it feels like for the 29-year-old who has signed with Warrington in the English Super League for next year.
A fan favourite who gets his job done without fuss on and off the field, Clark is a friendly face at Rabbitohs training but is aware he's always played with the straightest bat when speaking publicly throughout his career.
But after having spent his 10 seasons almost exclusively on the bench, Clark says his one-week-at-a-time approach is only due to his own genuine uncertainty towards his career.
"I was never guaranteed a spot each week in grade," he told AAP this week.
"If my missus wanted to plan for a party we couldn't, because I didn't know if I was going to be in first grade or reserve grade.
"I never knew where I was going to be."
It's at least making life a little easier in September, because beginning with this Saturday against St George Illawarra, Clark this time also can't know for sure which game will be his last with his junior club.
"I've sort of been made to be like that, just because I've never been able to plan ahead," Clark said.
"Even with my missus at the moment, she's like 'we need to find a house over in England' but I say 'forget about that, there's no point worrying about it right now'.
"Right now I've got one week I need to think about which is this week."
Clark will move to Warrington in November, after being told by Souths last year his contract wouldn't be extended beyond 2018.
"I was shocked," he said.
"But looking back on it I was lucky they told me so early because I could have been thinking this whole time I was going to be re-signed.
"They seem like a similar club to Souths in being in Warrington, a hard-working town and a great club."
