Jimmy Jeggo is the bolter in Ange Postecoglou's Socceroos squad for two World Cup qualifiers next month.
The Vienna-born midfielder, who earned a move to Austrian side Sturm Graz after stints with Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United, has a chance to win his first Socceroos cap in matches against Saudi Arabia and Japan.
Jeggo played under Postecoglou at Victory and was the 2014/15 young A-League player of the season.
Postecoglou said the 24-year-old had earned a chance to audition to be Mile Jedinak's long-term replacement as the Socceroos holding midfielder.
"He's started the season very well, played every game for a club that's sitting on top of the table," Postecoglou said.
"He's earned his spot. His form's been pretty good and he's playing as an outright number six.
"It's an area of the park we still want to create some depth in."
He is one of three changes to the squad, with Josh Risdon, Apostolos Giannou and Nathan Burns slipping out.
Reliable defender Bailey Wright returns to the 23-man group after injury and left-sided utility Craig Goodwin comes back in after playing in Australia's friendly with England in May.
"We've left out Nathan Burns who's still a very important part of what we do but he hasn't played for a quite a while," he said.
"Krusey's not getting a lot of game time ... I'm always looking at the make-up and making sure we've got cover in all areas.
"(Goodwin's) playing out wide and left in an attacking sense and I think that's his role."
Tim Cahill is again the only A-League player named, meaning nine local bosses will have their full complement of players for the opening round of the season.
First-choice goalkeeper Mat Ryan has held his place despite reports from Spain that the gloveman faces three weeks out with a strained knee suffered in training last week.
"I don't go off newspaper reports. We go off medical reports," Postecoglou said.
"The reports from the medical team in Valencia is he should be back training next week and should be available for selection the weekend before our camp."
Captain Mile Jedinak, who suffered a lower leg injury on national team duty, has been named after regaining fitness with club side Aston Villa.
Australia opened its final World Cup qualifying push with wins over Iraq and United Arab Emirates.
Next month's matches against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah (October 6) and Japan in Melbourne (October 11) are a chance for Australia to consolidate top place in the group.
The top two from the six-team group, which also includes Thailand, qualify for the 2018 World Cup, with a third team sent to a play-off.
