Parramatta star Michael Jennings has criticised his own start to the NRL season and has put the onus on himself to improve ahead of the representative window.
Jennings posted a season-high 217 metres in Monday's win over the Wests Tigers but declared it was not enough.
"It's been a bit patchy for myself. I think there's a lot to improve on," Jennings said ahead of Saturday's clash against Penrith, his former club.
"I'm not happy with where I'm at. I feel like I can give more to the team and in time, it'll come. It's just a part of rugby league where you just pick up form as it comes.
"It's a slow start for myself. I'm just really focusing on myself this week and what my role is to bring to the team. That's the main focus this week for myself."
Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga recently included Jennings, along with Melbourne's Will Chambers, as a contender to replace the injured Greg Inglis in next month's Test against New Zealand.
The incumbent NSW State of Origin centre is also under mounting pressure from the likes of Jarrod Croker, James Roberts, Jack Bird and Dylan Walker to retain his Blues spot.
The 28-year-old said it was up to him to show both sets of selectors why he remains one of the elite gamebreakers in the NRL.
"There's great quality centres there. It's good for myself, I want to cement that spot," he said.
"The challenge is there - I want to put my foot forward and tell selectors that I'm there to get picked. It's totally up to me, on my form."
Jennings is one of five former Panthers on the Eels' roster, four of whom have been included in the 21-man squad coach Brad Arthur named on Tuesday.
Ex-Penrith prop Suaia Matagi will start against his $3 million replacement James Tamou.
"Yeah, there's a few boys that are ex-Penrith boys. The development there in Penrith is awesome. It's an opportunity for our boys to really step up against our old club," Jennings said.
