The NSW health minister is concerned reports that paramedics arriving at work drunk will tarnish the service's reputation, despite Deputy Premier Troy Grant saying he still trusts our "local heroes".

News Corp on Saturday reported stressed paramedics were taking opiates and administering drips to themselves to get through shifts.

Health Minister Jillian Skinner said she was happy to consider anything that could help struggling paramedics, and admitted she was worried about the state ambulance service's reputation.

"Well I am worried about that, and clearly that sort of behaviour is unacceptable, just as bullying and harassment of paramedics is unacceptable," Ms Skinner said on Saturday morning.

"I'm always concerned when paramedics report this kind of behaviour or problem."

Mr Grant was quick to defend the work of the state's paramedics, outlining the risks of working in the job.

"PTSD and those that suffer and are exposed to horrific incidents ... need all the support they can get," Me Grant said.

"I have no erosion of trust in our paramedics, they are local heroes."
