Former US president Jimmy Carter has been released from hospital after suffering a fractured pelvis, his charity has announced.

"Carter is looking forward to continuing to recuperate at his home in Plains, Georgia, and thanks everyone for their kind well wishes," the Carter Center said on Thursday.

Carter, 95, fell on Monday in his home in Plains and was admitted to hospital for observation and treatment of what the centre said was a minor pelvic fracture.

It was the second fall this month for Carter, who required stitches above his eyebrow after the first fall.
