More than 200 workers who make Huggies nappies in Sydney's southwest will be out of a job within months after the manufacturer announced it was moving production to Asia.
Kimberley-Clark Australia on Wednesday revealed it would shut down the Ingleburn Mill by the end of July with the loss of up to 220 jobs.
"Production will move to Kimberly-Clark's facilities in Asia, enabling faster access to the latest research and engineering advancements in nappies and pants," it said in a statement.
The move is part of the US corporation's "global restructuring program".
"At this time the company is focused on the wellbeing of employees and their families and providing them with the support they need now and in the months ahead," Kimberley-Clark Australia said.
"All affected employees who leave Kimberly-Clark will be paid their full legal entitlements and redundancy pay."
Kimberly-Clark says it will continue to manufacture Kleenex, VIVA and Kimberly-Clark Professional products at its Millicent Mill in South Australia.
