Jobs, road and rail for regional Victoria

The Victorian government says its 2018/19 budget is for all of the state, not just the inner city.

VICTORIAN BUDGET 2018/19 REGIONAL SPENDING:

* $704 million to upgrade regional public transport, including $313 million to upgrade the Shepparton line

* $941m for regional roads, with $333m to fix more than 1000 km of road

* $462m to develop and expand the Ballarat Base Hospital

* $181m to build and upgrade 60 regional schools

* $120m to upgrade three TAFE facilities at Bendigo, Morewell and Sale

* $115m to expand the Wonthaggi Hospital

* $50m to upgrade rural and regional health infrastructure

* $32m to construct about 1600km of stock and domestic pipeline, providing water supply to up to 530,000 ha of land in the Grampians region

* $11m to improve mobile coverage in blackspot areas

* Payroll tax halved for regional Victorian businesses, making it the lowest national rate

COMMENT:
