Joey Johns' impact hailed in Super League

Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns has been praised for his role in preparing Warrington for the English Super League season.

Warrington head coach Tony Smith has hailed the impact of rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns on his club's preparations for the new English Super League season.

The champion Newcastle, NSW and Australia halfback made just three appearances for the Wolves during a loan spell in 2005 but has been a regular visitor to the club ever since and is currently assisting Smith at their pre-season training camp.

"Joey has been brilliant with all the boys," Smith said.

"They all get a bit out of him but particularly our young halfbacks.

"We have some talented ones coming through and learning their trade but he's also got some great tips for older guys too.

"He's been terrific; just to have a legend like him in the midst of their training camp.

"We've had him before at our training camps but it can't be understated what he gets through and the tips that he comes up with."

Warrington are due to return next week to finalise their preparations for their opening league game against champions Leeds on February 4.
