John Laws asks sex abuse victim if it was her 'fault'

Radio broadcaster John Laws has asked a sexual abuse victim live on-air if she was 'provocative' and 'unattractive', sparking outrage over his sensitivity on the subject.

Veteran radio broadcaster John Laws yesterday asked a sobbing sexual assault victim if the abuse "was in any way her fault".

The woman detailed her history of abuse allegedly at the hands of her own family members, including her father, brothers and uncles since the age of six.

"My God they were having a good time with you," said the broadcasting legend, missing the sensitivity of the subject matter.

"Was it in any way your fault?" Mr Laws asked, on his program on the Super Radio Network, formerly 2SM.

"No, I don't think so," the woman said.

"You weren't provocative?" Mr Laws said.

"I was a little girl. I don't think so John. No, I was just a little girl."

Mr Laws has faced a backlash over his comments, especially on Twitter, where his name trended today.

"Are you unattractive?" he went on to ask in the interview which lasted about seven minutes.

"I don't think so. I think I'm all right," the woman said.

"You sound all right," Laws said.
