NRL veteran John Morris has announced his retirement after playing 300 matches.
A neck injury has forced the 34-year-old to bring down the curtain on a 14-year career spanning stints at Newcastle, Parramatta, Wests Tigers and Cronulla.
Utility Morris ran out for his 300th NRL game against South Sydney in round 11 before injuring his neck.
"You can't take any risks with an injury like this to your neck and with a young family with two young boys in Cruz and Taj and wife Michelle to consider, I had to think about the future," Morris said in a Sharks' statement.
"It has been a privilege and an honour to be able to play 300 games in the NRL, in particular the last five years here at the Sharks.
"I've made numerous life-long friendships along the way and I've been fortunate to play with some of the world's best players.
"I'll be retiring with some great memories."
Morris has been working as an assistant to interim Sharks coach James Shepherd and has previously indicated his desire to pursue a career in coaching upon retirement.
Sharks skipper Paul Gallen took to Twitter to pay tribute to Morris.
"Great career @jmorris_09 300 games got everything he could out of it and champion bloke. Congrats the bomber," Gallen wrote.
