Johnny Depp's dogs have been returned to the US, but now the country has a demand of its own: Get everything Australian out of there, or else.

US comedian John Oliver has taken down Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce in a hilarious segment on his late-night TV show, Last Week Tonight.

Oliver starts the clip by recapping how Johnny Depp brought his dogs into Australia without declaring them, only to be told by Mr Joyce that they would have to be returned home.

"I've got to say that's pretty ballsy. Elected officials very rarely risk openly telling puppies to go f--- themselves," Oliver said to roaring laughter.

The TV host then poked fun at Mr Joyce's threat that if the dogs weren’t returned, they would be euthanised.

"He gave them a death countdown," Oliver said, smiling.

"And this became such a global sensation [that] The Guardian even had a clock ticking down the seconds on its website, which is confusing because countdown clocks are usually for good things!"

To finish, Oliver said he hoped the whole affair had been worth it because Australia had 'made it personal" and the US "had no choice but to respond."

"As of this moment you've got 50 hours to get everything Australian out of our country, or else," a menacing voice can be heard saying.

"You can start by taking back all your disgusting Vegemite, which tastes like a kangaroo took a salty s--t in a jar."

"Then, while you’re at it, come and get every sh---y music album you’ve ever sent over here, especially Midnight Oil."
