The New Zealand Breakers are reportedly set to sign David Stockton, the son of NBA Hall of Famer and Utah Jazz legend John Stockton.
Point guard Stockton, who currently plays with Euroleague side KK Cedevita Zagreb, is close to agreeing to terms to join to the Auckland-based NBL side, according to basketball news website Eurobasket.
The 25-year-old would replace countryman and fellow guard Ben Woodside, who is set to miss around two months of action due to a foot injury.
Woodside suffered foot ligament damage last Friday against Melbourne United, forcing him out of Sunday's NBL home win over the Brisbane Bullets.
Stockton has spent time on Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards' NBA rosters, but has played most of his career with NBA development league side Reno Bighorns.
His father holds the all-time NBA record for assists, sharing a famous, lethal combination with retired powerhouse Jazz forward Karl Malone in the 1990s.
Their statues lie at the front of the Jazz's home Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.
The Breakers were hopeful of bringing in a player via the international transfer market before Friday's home game against the Cairns Taipans before heading to Perth to face the Wildcats on Sunday.
