Amber Heard has filed for divorce from Johnny Depp in Los Angeles Superior Court citing irreconcilable differences.

They have been married for 15 months and have no children.

According to the divorce documents, the couple separated on May 22.

Heard, 30, filed for divorce from Depp, 52, on Monday - three days after the Pirates of the Caribbean star lost his mother.

Celebrity news website TMZ also reported that Depp had asked a judge to reject Amber Heard's claim for spousal support and that the couple did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement.

Depp's latest film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, is due to be released in the US on Friday and he is currently on the promotional trail.

The couple married on Depp's private island Little Hall's Pond Cay in the Bahamas in February, 2015.

The Daily Mail reported the couple were last pictured together during their April appearance in a Gold Coast courtroom in relation to charges of illegal importing their dogs Pistol and Boo into Australia.

The website also reported the couple have been noticeably separate from each other several times in the past few months, including the LA premiere of Alice Through the Looking Glass and Heard's 30th birthday on April 22.
