Josh McGuire in hot water over hair pull

Brisbane lock Josh McGuire is facing a suspension for picking up his third contrary conduct charge of the NRL season, this time for a hair pull.

Brisbane lock Josh McGuire's ugly record has come back to haunt as he stares down the barrel of up to two games on the sideline for pulling the hair of Canterbury's Adam Elliott.

McGuire was charged with a grade-one contrary conduct offence over the first-half incident in the Broncos' 36-22 loss to the Bulldogs on Thursday night.

Ordinarily, the charge would only attract a fine of $1500 - reduced to $1100 with an early guilty plea - but the Queensland lock is not eligible for a monetary penalty given it's his third such charge of the year.

Instead, he has been slapped with a two-game ban over the hair pull, which will be reduced to one match if he enters an early guilty plea.

McGuire first earned the ire of the match review committee in round 14 of this year when he was charged with stomping on the hand of Melbourne's Tim Glasby.

He then copped a second fine three weeks ago for making contact with a match official in his team's round 18 loss to the Warriors.

He was spotted pulling the hair of Penrith forward Corey Harawira-Naera a fortnight ago, but was not charged.

McGuire is the second Bronco to be picked up for such an offence in the past month, given Anthony Milford was also fined for a hair pull in the same defeat of the Panthers.

Regardless, it means McGuire will miss next Thursday's clash with North Queensland with an early guilty plea.
