Journo talks after Somali kidnapper arrest

A Canadian freelance journalist who was kidnapped in Somalia has spoken for the first time since her kidnapper's arrest in Ottawa.

A Canadian freelance journalist who was kidnapped in Somalia with an Australian photojournalist has spoken for the first time since her alleged kidnapper's arrest.

Amanda Lindhout says the man, who was arrested by police in Ottawa on Thursday, terrorised her mother by calling her multiple times a day to extract a ransom.

Lindhout and Australian Nigel Brennan were kidnapped by Somalian gunmen in August 2008. They were released in November 2009 after a ransom was paid.

Canadian police say Ali Omar Ader was one of the main negotiators within the group that carried out the kidnapping.

Police suggested that Ader was lured to Canada before being arrested but declined to reveal how he arrived in Canada.
