Barnaby Joyce is confident people in the bush will get their chance to vote in the same-sex marriage survey after his Nationals colleagues raised questions about Australia Post's delivery standards in rural and regional areas.

"Obviously I can't give 100 per cent that nothing will go wrong, but I'm overwhelmingly confident that we will have this form delivered, and the Australian people will have their say," he told ABC television from the Nationals' conference in Canberra on Sunday.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics will start mailing out the survey this week and all forms are to be returned within four week on November 7.

The result of the survey will be announced on November 15, followed by a vote in parliament on a private member's bill if there is a majority "yes" result.

The survey forms will include the question "Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?" and voters will tick a "yes" or "no" box.
