The return of former prime minister Kevin Rudd to Labor's re-election effort will confuse and worry voters, Nationals Senate leader Barnaby Joyce says.
Mr Rudd, who is recovering from gall bladder surgery, on Thursday left his sick bed to throw his support behind Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
But Senator Joyce said the move wouldn't reassure Queenslanders, still hurting over Mr Rudd's disposal.
"It just looks completely and utterly strange," he told ABC Radio on Friday.
"What it will remind people of in Queensland is how precarious our government has become.

"We have this desire by Julia Gillard to have a selective amnesia, which now calls on us to remember that the person she got rid of, is now the person she is relying on to support her."
