JT, Scott to lead Cowboys NRL trophy tour

Co-captains Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott will take North Queensland's maiden NRL premiership trophy on a tour of the region later this month.

Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott will lead North Queensland players on a victory lap of their vast region to show off the club's inaugural NRL premiership trophy to their adoring fans.

The club said on Friday Dally M and Clive Churchill medallist Thurston and his co-captain Scott would head a contingent of Cowboys players who would visit Mackay, Mount Isa and Cairns on Sunday week, October 18.

Final details are yet to be ironed out, but the tour will take the form of a charter flight leaving Townsville, travelling south to Mackay, west to Mount Isa and then north to Cairns.

There will be a public reception in each of the cities to allow the local communities to greet the players and see the Provan-Summons trophy first hand.

It's expected the tour will be extended to include more remote and smaller towns in North Queensland at a later date in the off-season.

Logistics have been difficult to sort given the great size of the region and the insatiable thirst for all things Cowboys up north.

Celebrations have barely stopped for the team since their thrilling 17-16 grand final golden-point win over Brisbane last Sunday in Sydney.
