WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is set to be the latest star to get The Simpsons treatment.

Townsville's Mr Assange, currently under UK house arrest in relation to a sexual assault investigation in Sweden, will play himself on episode 500 of the hit Fox show, the Washington Times reports.

“He's a controversial figure, and there's a good reason he's controversial", producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly, adding that the team avoided Mr Assange's legal troubles in the storyline, which has reportedly already been recorded.

“There's nothing we did that has anything to do with the legal situation that he's in", Mr Jean said.

Julian Assange is also set to unveil his own talk show on the Russian Moscow-backed TV station Russia Today.
