Jurgensen returns as NZ bowling coach

Shane Jurgensen will act as the bowling coach for the NZ cricket team at the World T20 and in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Australian Shane Jurgensen will enjoy a second stint as Black Caps bowling coach after taking the job on an interim basis.

The 39-year-old will replace Dimitri Mascarenhas who finishes with the side after the second Test against Australia in Christchurch starting on Saturday.

Jurgensen, who was New Zealand bowling coach from 2008-10, has been granted a leave of absence from his job as Fiji's national coach to take up the role.

A former state cricketer for Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia who also enjoyed a stint with English county Sussex, Jurgensen will take the reins for the World Twenty20 in India next month and the tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa later in the year.

"I've worked with a lot of the guys within the set up before and the way they've developed over the years has been exciting to watch," he said.

"Their results and rankings speak for themselves and I can't wait to work with them and help them to continue to improve."

NZ Cricket chief Lindsay Crocker said Jurgensen had all the attributes they were looking for.

"He has experience in sub-continental conditions working with pace bowlers and spinners, which should be valuable for both the World T20 and the dry conditions expected on the twin tours to Africa at the back end of their winter," he said.
