Karrie Webb to weigh future at year's end

Veteran Australian golfer Karrie Webb is uncertain how long she will keep playing a full schedule on the professional tour.

Australian golf great Karrie Webb will decide at the end of the year whether to continue competing fulltime against women half her age.

But the 41-year-old is adamant the rise of precociously-talented youngsters such as 18-year-old world No.1 Lydia Ko won't force her off the LPGA Tour.

"The golf ball doesn't know how old you are, it's just about getting it in the hole," Webb told reporters in Adelaide on Wednesday.

"As long as I feel fit and healthy to play, I feel like I'm competitive."

Webb will seek a sixth Australian Open title from Thursday at The Grange course in Adelaide against a strong field which includes Ko.

She has no grand plans beyond a keenly-sought Olympic debut in Rio.

"I said I was going to retire when I was 35 - and I'm 41 now and still going," she said.

"I don't know what the future holds for me as far as fulltime playing.

"I'm concentrating this year on a full schedule and hopefully making an Olympic team and just reassessing things at the the end of the year."

Webb, who has won seven majors in a decorated career that has reaped 41 tournament wins, said she was relishing playing in Australia again - unlike her early days.

"It took me a couple of years to win in Australia, which the media thought was an eternity - it felt like that for me also when I was so young," she said.

"Even after I started winning it took me a while to appreciate coming home to play.

"When I first came home it almost felt like it was a burden, that the expectations of others was really heavy on my shoulders.

"But after a few years I realised how great it was."
