Queensland's all-time leading wicket-taker Michael Kasprowicz has been appointed Queensland Cricket's interim chief executive officer.

Kasprowicz steps into the role left vacant by Geoff Cockerill's resignation last month as the Queensland Cricket board searches for a permanent replacement.

"Michael brings deep insights into the business of Australian cricket as well as being closely attuned to Queensland Cricket and its operations," chairman Jim Holding said.

"We are grateful to him for agreeing to take on this role in addition to his existing commitments."

Kasprowicz, 44, took 505 wickets for the Bulls at an average of 24.43, while also taking 113 wickets in 38 Tests for Australia.

But since his retirement in 2008, he has also enjoyed a successful business career.

Kasprowicz, an MBA, is the founder and managing director of trade and business consultancy firm Venture India, while he is also on the board of the Australia India Council and the Bulls Masters, and formerly served as president of the Australian Cricketers' Association.

"Queensland Cricket is currently well positioned with strong growth in participation and enormous potential emerging through the youth pathway and elite teams like the Bulls, Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat BBL and WBBL teams," Kasprowicz said.

"Queensland is also well positioned financially, with recent strategic funding initiatives targeting the grassroots of the game and complementing the outstanding work of our many volunteers."

Kasprowicz will step down from his position on the board of Cricket Australia, where he has served since 2011, to allow him to take on the interim CEO position from next week.
