Hollywood actress Naomi Watts might be used to wearing a diamond or two on the red carpet, but said she was "dazzled" by an exhibition opening in Canberra this week.

From Friday, visitors with an eye for beautiful 'bling' can treat themselves to a walk-through of 300 pieces of jewellery and ornaments made by the iconic French company, on loan from celebrities, royal families and the Cartier Collection in Geneva.
A highlight of the collection is the "Halo" tiara Kate Middleton wore on her wedding day to Prince William. Borrowed from the Queen and on loan from the Royal Collection for the first time, it contains more than 1000 diamonds.

Exhibition organisers say it will provide a window into the world of Cartier's A-list client book.
Elizabeth Taylor's 1951 platinum, gold and Burmese ruby necklace - synonymous with the iconic jeweller - forms part of the display, as does Grace Kelly's engagement ring.
Several drawings, photographs and film from the Cartier archives will also feature.

Watts, wearing some Cartier pieces herself, spoke highly of the collection at the preview in Canberra on Wednesday.
"This particular selection of pieces is quite astounding. I've had the opportunity to walk through yesterday and you'll all be dazzled," she said.
"We've seen them in movies, these pieces - incredible pieces - in paintings - they're part of our travelling through history."

"Years of research and gentle persuasion will deliver an unforgettable experience for Australians."
