Federal independent MP Bob Katter says he wants a more moderate approach to poker machine reform.

Mr Katter says while he does not like gambling, going the "full hog" on pokies changes would be disastrous for clubs.

"The withdrawal symptoms now would be very, very serious indeed," Mr Katter told Network Ten.

"I can't go the full hog on this now, much as I'd like to and much as that is where my sympathies lie."

"So I think we've got a have a far more moderate approach."
