Robbie Katter has declared victory for Katter's Australian Party in the north Queensland seat of Hinchinbrook.

With only about 1000 votes left to count, Mr Katter said Nick Dametto "could not lose" and had ousted LNP member Andrew Cripps from the coastal seat.

"It's been a six-year project for us to get another seat in parliament and we've done that," he said on Wednesday.
