US pop superstar Katy Perry will perform at least seven arena shows in Australia next year, a decade on from the release of the record that shot her to international fame.

Perry, 32, announced the tour dates for 2018 on Friday before a crowd of screaming and crying fans at Myer's Sydney CBD store.

The retail giant has signed up as the principal sponsor for the Australian leg of Perry's Witness: The Tour.

Fans queued for hours to catch a glimpse of Perry, who took to the Myer stage with her new bleached blonde pixie haircut wearing fishnets and an electric blue leather dress with matching nail polish and eyeshadow.

"It doesn't matter how old you are. I think she's a very good role model, she's really inspiring," Lara Sands, also 32, told AAP.

Perry performed 23 shows in Australia on her sell-out Prismatic tour in late 2014 but the singer has so far announced just seven nationwide next year, starting in Perth on July 24 and ending in Sydney on August 14.

"It will be very bright and colourful and ... it'll have a great combination of escapism, which sometimes we need in music because the world is kind of a strange place right now, and a lot of heart," she told the crowd on Friday.

"I think people will feel very connected. I hope they see themselves in the show and are inspired."

Witness is her first album in four years, with the singles Chained to the Rhythm, Bon Appetit and Swish Swish.

Perry's 2008 record One of the Boys thrust her into the spotlight with its hit tunes I Kissed a Girl and Hot n Cold.

"I think you can hear the progression and maybe a little bit of maturity," she said.

"I'm very happily 32 and ... I'm just trying to make some purpose with everything I do."

Perry said she always has "the most fun" touring Australia because of the "g'day mate, no dramas" attitude.

"You guys just love living life and there's no problems," she said.

About 150 lucky fans were treated to a glimpse of the tour at a one-off show in Circular Quay on Friday, with Perry singing five tunes including Chained to the Rhythm wearing a silver and blue sequinned, hooded dress.

Tickets for Witness:The Tour will go on sale on Wednesday, July 19 through Ticketek.
