American Bubba Watson and Germany's Martin Kaymer are in a playoff to decide the winner of the 92nd PGA Championship after a penalty kept American Dustin Johnson from joining them.

Watson and Kaymer were level at 11-under 277 after the final round of the last major championship of the season.

Johnson appeared to be set to join them in the playoff but he was slapped with a two-stroke penalty for grounding his club in a bunker on the 18th hole.

Watson shot a closing round 68 and Kaymer fired a 70. Johnson finished with a 73 after officials conducted a video review and the penalty was tacked on.

The three-hole aggregate playoff will be played on the par-four 10th and continue to the 17th before finishing up on 18.

If there is still a deadlock, they will play a sudden-death playoff beginning at 18.
