Keary, Walker in Souths halves battle

Luke Keary and Adam Walker face a playoff for a spot in Souths halves against the Roosters, with Adam Reynolds' return from injury imminent.

South Sydney halves Luke Keary and Cody Walker are facing a potentially career-defining outing against the Sydney Roosters on Friday.

Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds could return from a jaw injury as soon as next week, meaning either Walker or Keary will have to make way.

Reynolds fractured his jaw in the round-one thrashing of the Roosters.

Since then Walker and Keary have combined for two wins and two losses.

The return clash against the winless Roosters shapes as a vital one for both pivots.

"Madge (Souths coach Michael Maguire) will make his call on that when the time comes, I don't know that that will be," Walker said at Souths training on Tuesday.

"It is always good to have that strong competition and it is no different here.

"I felt pretty confident in the side in round one and it has rolled on.

"We are all starting to know each other's games and that is all starting to grow."

In his absence, Reynolds has been helping Walker, who made his NRL debut in the opening-round 42-12 defeat of the Roosters, with the weaker aspects of his game.

Keary sat out the Roosters clash due to suspension.

"Adam has been helping me out with my kicking game for one," Walker said.

"He is one of the best kickers in the game and that is one area I need to improve on."
