Justice Minister Michael Keenan has become the latest Liberal party member to call for an end to the public stoush between Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his predecessor Tony Abbott.

Mr Keenan has warned that the public takes a dim view of the in-fighting and says if it's not resolved it will lead to defeat at the next federal election.

Mr Keenan's call follows that of new Liberal Party president Nick Greiner who has told both men to "be adults" and resolve their differences face-to-face for the good of the party.

Mr Keenan says Mr Greiner is making an "obvious point" and the spat has to end.

"If we're talking about ourselves, if we're talking about our disagreements, then we're not really talking to the Australian people," Mr Keenan said.

"We've got to do everything we can to stop Bill Shorten and the Labor Party from winning the next election. If that were to occur that would be a disaster for Australia."

Mr Keenan wouldn't be drawn on whether tensions between Mr Turnbull and Mr Abbott can be resolved, insisting instead the whole Turnbull government needed to work together not in division.

"Everyone - everyone - in our team, should be part of that team," he said.
