Kelly, Etoundi win weightlifting silver

Australia's Damon Kelly and Francois Etoundi have both taken out silver medals at the Commonwealth weightlifting championships in India.

Australia's Damon Kelly has won silver in the super heavyweight final at the Commonwealth weightlifting championships in India.

His second placing on the final night of the competition in Pune adds to the silver medal Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Francois Etoundi won in the men's 77kg earlier in the week.

Kelly, 31, went into the event with the goal of improving on the 361kg total he lifted to win the Australian championships earlier this year.

He lifted a total of 366kg in Pune, nine kilograms less than Nauru's Glasgow Games silver medallist Itte Detenamo.

Kelly lifted 160kg in the snatch, and 206 kilograms in the clean and jerk.

Australia's Etoundi had snatched 130kg and clean and jerked 167kg to finish second with a 297kg total in his weight division.
