Ten times world champion Kelly Slater has beaten Australian Owen Wright to win the Hurley Pro at Trestles in California,
Thirty-nine year old Slater defeated the number 2 ranked Wright 17.50 to 16.74 in the finals.
Earlier, Wright had a near-perfect run at the competition. He stormed into the quarter-finals, joining Slater and fellow Australian Joel Parkinson, world number 3.

Each automatically qualified for the next stage after winning their respective round-four heats in waves just over one metre. Parkinson finished with the day's highest heat total with an 18.06 to beat fellow Aussies Julian Wilson (17.77) and Mick Fanning (15.50) in their non-elimination round-four clash.
The 21-year-old Wright, fresh from winning the last tour event in New York, edged American Damien Hobgood and Aussie Adrian Buchan in round four.
The tour rookie of the year when he finished 2010 as the world number 6, landed combined wave scores of 16.73 to Hobgood's 15.20 and Buchan's 12.46 to move into the quarters.
Parkinson, who experienced disappointing results at the past two tour events, admitted the high stakes up for grabs lifted him at Trestles.
"I've got a bit more to drive for with the world title on the line and it pulled me through," said Parkinson, who lost his number 1 ranking after a 25th at the Billabong Pro in Tahiti in August.
The 39-yuear-old Slater is the reigning 10-Time ASP world champion and four-time defending Hurley Pro at Trestles winner.
The Hurley Pro is the seventh event of the 11-contest tour.
