Kelly's killer to face sentencing in Oct

The 19-year-old who king hit Thomas Kelly in Sydney's Kings Cross will face a sentence hearing in October, a court has heard.

The man who killed teenager Thomas Kelly in an unprovoked attack in Sydney's Kings Cross will face a sentence hearing in October.

Kieran Loveridge, 19, did not appear in the Supreme Court on Friday where the case was briefly mentioned.

Loveridge was initially charged with murder but the Crown accepted his guilty plea to manslaughter last month.

The decision to accept his plea to the lesser charge sparked a public outcry, with the victim's mother Kathy Kelly saying her family had "no rights or say at all".

The 18-year-old accounting cadet was walking with his girlfriend and talking on his mobile phone when he was king hit on July 7 last year.

He was one of five young men Loveridge assaulted during an hour-long violent spree in Sydney's Kings Cross.

The "beautiful, defenceless" young man died later in hospital after his family made the decision to turn off his life support.

Loveridge also pleaded guilty to four counts of assault.

Justice Megan Latham adjourned the matter until September 6 when Loveridge is expected to be formally arraigned.

She set the matter down for a sentence hearing for the week starting October 21.
