Kenya protest over jailed journos

Nairobi-based journalists have staged a protest at UN offices in the Kenyan capital against the jailing of three Al-Jazeera journalists in Egypt.

A group of Nairobi-based journalists has been ejected from a reception at the United Nations complex in Kenya's capital after launching a protest over the jailing of three Al-Jazeera journalists in Egypt.

Australian Peter Greste, Canadian-Egyptian Mohammed Fahmy and Egyptian Baher Mohammed have been held for more than a year in Egypt on terror-related charges but Egypt's top court ordered a retrial in the case two weeks ago.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was attending a reception at the UN complex in Nairobi on Tuesday.

About a dozen journalists were removed from the reception by UN security staff after waving placards bearing the words "FREEAJSTAFF" with their mouths covered by black masking tape symbolising the muzzling of the press.

The case has sparked widespread condemnation from international rights groups and other media outlets, who say the journalists have been unjustly jailed for doing their job.
