Kenya twins named after Obama and Romney

A young mother in Kenya has reportedly taken an unusual approach to commemorating the US presidential elections, naming her twins after the candidates.

Shortly after her boys were born following Tuesday's vote, 20-year-old Millicent Owuor named her first-born after Barack Obama and her second after Obama's rival Mitt Romney.

"I named the first twin Barack and the second one Mitt," Owuor told Reuters newsagency on Thursday.

Owuor posed for photographers with her babies, BBC News reported, and said she had named them after the winning and losing candidates in order to commemorate the voting day.

She told Kenya's Standard newspaper she hopes to remember the elections for a long time.

She gave birth at a hospital in the town of Siaya, which is near the village of Kogelo where Obama's late father was born, so it should be no surprise Obama was the more popular candidate in the area.

According to Reuters, news of Obama's victory caused villagers in Kenya to erupt in cheers and chants of "Obama, Obama, Obama!"

Poor baby Mitt.
