Kenyan troops have ended a day-long university campus siege that has left at least 147 students dead.

Masked gunmen from Somalia's al-Shabab Islamist group used grenades to break into the university in Garissa at dawn before attacking students as they slept.
They held hostages for 16 hours until security forces killed all four gunmen.

The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab also carried out the Westgate shopping mall massacre in Nairobi in 2013, when four gunmen slaughtered at least 67 people in a four-day bloodbath.
